Dark star trilogy book 26/30/2023 James sections Sogolon's journey into five parts, throughout which we witness the growth of her power, both physical and magical. Some of her story retells Tracker's, Rashomon-style, but much of it is her own life, one that begins with oppression and ends with a hard-won semi-freedom. The novel follows the travels and travails of Sogolon, the aforementioned Moon Witch that Tracker frequently conflicted with in his novel. As awed as I was by Tracker's story in the first book, Sogolon's tale makes this a rare sequel that is better than the first. With the sequel, Moon Witch, Spider King, James once again shattered my expectations. Unwieldy and unrelenting, it systematically dismantled everything I thought I knew about epic fantasy. Black Leopard, Red Wolf, the first book in Marlon James' Dark Star Trilogy, was one of those novels that broke my brain in the best possible way.

Carmilla by David Brian6/30/2023 Ghost stories date back centuries, but those written in the Victorian era have a unique atmosphere and dark beauty. Thank you Elizabeth! Excellent as always. The fact that she was the reader was the main reason why I wanted this audiobook! Her voice is calm and soothing and she always manages to keep me interested no matter what. Yes, I did! She is actually my favorite female reader, and I've enjoyed quite a bit of great stories read by her in the past. Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Klett’s other performances before? How does this one compare? everything beautiful enough to make you forgive its relative shortness. This one is pretty short though, but the characters, the story, the setting. I'm a lover of gothic stories, the longer the better. Won't hesitate to listen to it again, perhaps with my girlfriend late night in bed, or just when I'll feel like it. I've read the book before (a long time ago, though), and it's a great short-ish story. I am forbidden by anouk markovits6/30/2023 Five years later! Josef rescues a young girl!
